Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais is a fascinating medieval village in the Tuscan countryside of historical memory dating back to the year one thousand. Its name derives from the abundant presence of broom heather in the area, with which were produced brooms.
Built as a fortified settlement by the city of Siena with the purpose of defending the territory from possible sieges, it was conquered by by Florence, during the period of wars between the two cities, which contemptuously erected a Marzocco, symbol of popular power, which still stands today located in the main garden.
From the fourteenth to the nineteenth century it was owned by the Sozzini family, a noble reformist Sienese dynasty, who transformed it into a castle.
Over time, other buildings were added to the tower, such as the main villa, the stables, the farmers' houses, the chapel and the cellar, becoming a real village and flourishing agricultural company, dedicated to the cultivation of vines and 'olive tree.
During the seventeenth century was created a garden, called Roccolo, for the noble art of falcon training.
Still existing today, it has become a mystical, almost sacred place of unique peace and beauty.
The strong agricultural vocation of the area led Elisabetta Gnudi-Angelini, the Lady of Sangiovese, to purchase the village in the 1990s.
By carrying out a careful and meticulous renovation work, she brought the estate back to its former splendor, transforming it into a luxury hotel, accompanied by the agricultural company with the same name a few kilometers from the hotel, the flagship of the Italian wine scene which boasts a production of very fine wine and DOP extra virgin olive oil.
